World War 1 was America's first modern war. American vets came home from that war with all kinds of experiences and wrote and spoke of it. They changed what we thought of war.

Part of our sense of community is in hearing the experiences of the individuals that comprise our community.  Today, we honor that sharing of stories through our Mingling of Waters service.  We'll have a time for sharing the important essence of your recent experiences, the experiences that have enriched you.  Please consider bringing water from some important source of your experiences to use in our mingling ceremony.  We'll have water available so all can be part of the mingling ceremony.  However, this year, we'd also like to have you think of what you bring to church that can enrich the church community.  What do you, or will you, contribute to sustain and strengthen our community?  Think of how you can share both your experiences and the gifts you can offer the church community.

JUNE SERVICES

June 5 ~ "Flower Communion"

Doak will lead this unique UU service initiated June 4, 1923, in Prague, by Norbert Čapek, who was also the founder of the Unitarian Church in Czechoslovakia. Everyone is encouraged to bring a flower (blossom, blooming small branch) for the service.

After this shortened service, we go to Chiawana Park at 2020 Road 88 in Pasco for our Annual Church Picnic. Bring food to share. Paper products and eatware provided.

June 6 ~ "Universalism: Past, Present and Powerful"

Speaker:  Rev. Kalen Fristad

Rev. Kalen Fristad was a United Methodist minister for more than 38 years, is a member of the Unitarian Universalist Christian Fellowship, and is President of the Christian Universalist Association. He traveled the country from 2003 to 2006 to speak at churches, countering the teaching that many people will suffer for eternity in hell and proclaiming the hopeful message of universalism. Following then, he served churches in Iowa half time, while spending half time on the road.  He retired from the parish ministry in 2013, but continues to travel the country speaking on universalism. Over the years he has spoken at more than 190 UU churches.

May 8 ~ "We Are Dancing Sarah's Circle"

On this Mother's Day Sunday, we'll explore themes of strength, adventure and growth in the lives of women we've known.   From women traveling west to the inward journey of motherhood, we'll celebrate circles of relationships.

May 15 ~ "Honoring All My Relations"

Inspired by Native American sensitivities and ideas, Doak will consider the power and vitality of our seventh principle: 'respect for the interdependent web'.

This service will be a “Blessing of the Animals” and will be intergenerational.  Please consider bringing only animals that can behave well indoors, in crowds, and in the presence of other animals.  Photos may be a good option if you're unsure and still wish to honor your animal friends.

May 29 ~ "Faith Beamer Cooke and the Richland Unitarian Fellowship Movement"

Speaker:  Alyssa Reil, Special Guest

“The Richland Unitarian Fellowship Movement,” aims to illuminate Faith Beamer Cooke's role in the creation of what is now the Community Unitarian Universalist Church. Faith's actions demonstrate the convergence of Western themes in the Columbia Basin mid-century, where individualism and resourcefulness thrived amidst a nuclear Home Front and Cold War mentality within the government-made community of Richland.

April 24 ~ "Green Chalice: Earth Day"

Earth my body, water my blood, air my breath and fire my spirit. This chant reminds us that we are people of the earth, and that our fire of commitment comes through the connections we have to nature. Come explore Hildegard of Bingen's "Viriditas." Each of us is a vessel, a chalice. Come nurture the flame within that expresses itself through us as a lived commitment to the UU Seventh Principle.  

Through her ministry, "Listen to Heart Song", Reverend Amy Beltaine evokes the discovery and expression of your gift. She lives in Portland, Oregon with her spouse Hawthorne, son Corey, a pug, a beagle, and a cat. Amy serves as the president of the continent-wide organization Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans, is the webmaster for the UU Spiritual Director's network, and a consultant for the League of Women Voters of Portland. She's excited to be traveling in her portable home, visiting UU congregations throughout the Southwest in the winter and Northwest in the Spring.

In the Taoist tradition the spiritual teacher Lao Tzu is quoted, "The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." As we gather this morning, a reflection upon the 30 days of love.  Where are we as we embark on the continuing journey? An alternative translation to Lao Tzu's quote is stated, "the journey of a thousand miles begins beneath one's feet." Where do we stand? What is our work? What are some steps forward?
